Get to Know Amy

Amy Howard, founder of A Makers’ Studio, has been making, teaching, mentoring, and serving others for more than 30 years.

Amy spent her childhood summers in art classes or showcasing puppet shows created with neighborhood friends. She started her entrepreneurial journey at the age of 10 and has never looked back. Amy believes that her experiences in childhood set her up for success, but a high school trip to Europe is what sealed the deal for her future passions.

Amy recalls the cobblestone streets of Lucerne, France, and all of the colors and textures she had never encountered before. Such awe-inspiring craftsmanship and architecture left her with only one choice–she had to come back. Forever changed, Howard went on to attend the University of Memphis and double-majored in (what else?) art history and business. In those defining and invaluable days, Amy’s talents for refinishing and restoring were awakened and she knew she was doing exactly what she was meant to do.

After graduation, Amy pursued her passion for antique finishes and beautiful decor, becoming an interior designer and restoration professional. She and her husband Gene did that for nearly two decades before shifting their business model in 2008. During the financial crisis, when businesses were failing, Amy decided it was time to turn her decades of experience in restoring and rescuing furniture into something she could bring to the masses. Her line of artisanal, green, VOC-free products was launched, and so was Amy Howard At Home. Since then, the Amy Howard At Home brand has grown exponentially and her products are available in nationwide chains, such as Ace Hardware.

The Launch of A Makers’ Studio

Amy Howard, founder of A Makers’ Studio, has been making, teaching, mentoring, and serving others for more than 30 years.

But that wasn’t all for Amy. In 2017, she decided she wanted to provide a more hands-on approach to her passion, one that brought her back to her love for teaching. She also wanted to give creatives an opportunity to grow a business of their own. That’s when A Maker’s Studio was born. With A Makers’ Studio, creative souls can make and teach others how to craft a more beautiful life full of potential. In addition to mentoring creative entrepreneurs, Amy is also passionate about serving others. Her work, paired with the work of our Makers, aids in ending human trafficking around the world.

Today, Amy lives in Memphis, TN, where she hosts workshops and supports a team of Makers who are also passionate about crafting a life they love. Because of her compassion, A Makers’ Studio also supports women who are newly escaped from human trafficking. Amy’s work is rooted in her belief that we all have the power to craft a life and home we love, which is why she’s dedicated her life to helping others make things beautiful.
